I am a perfectionist to a fault. While that may make it challenging for my family on a day-to-day basis, it is certainly to the advantage of my patients’. I love seeing results and work steadfastly to ensure my patients achieve optimal wellness. If the treatment protocol I designed is not working as quickly as I would hope for, I switch it up. I am relentless in achieving complete pain relief, relaxation, and balance utilizing Acupuncture and adjunct modalities. Many people are not familiar with the wide scope of ailments that can be remedied with Acupuncture. I like to give a snippet of a typical day so you can see how Acupuncture can benefit you, and why there has never been a better time to begin your own Acupuncture wellness journey.
My first patient is a 28 year old single mom who has been through a challenging divorce. In addition to feeling utterly overwhelmed by her responsibilities, she is also having extreme pain that travels from location to location. As soon as the pain resolves in one area of the body, it starts in another. She has been unable to find any answers on her own, or with various methods she has tried from her primary care physician’s recommendation. A good friend of hers recommended she see me, and the final push came when she was told she simply had nothing to lose. From the initial treatment she was able to get into a deep relaxation. Her body not only welcomed the treatment but basked in it from the onset. It was as if she was just waiting for someone to help her let go. Rather than start treatment focusing on each area of pain, which I felt would be far too excessive, I focused on the root of the illness. In her case the mental blockages and overwhelmed feeling were mirrored by the blockages in the body. The pain ensued after the emotional upheaval and was unrelentless. My focus was to utilize Acupuncture points to put her into a deep state of relaxation. Simultaneously, I focused on moving both Qi and Blood improving circulation throughout the body so that I was treating her as a whole person, rather than the individual areas of pain. It is only two weeks into treatment and the changes are fantastic. Even her pallor has changed. She appears vibrant and energized. Her pain has decreased in both intensity and frequency. If she feels any pain at all, it comes and goes just as quickly, showing how the body is now able to fight it on its own and restore balance. She states she is disappointed she did not try Acupuncture sooner!
My next patient is an 85 year old male who presents with depression and loss of balance. His family is frustrated that he cannot just snap out of it. He does not do well with medications as he typically gets every possible negative side effect listed. The balance issue is hindering him from taking walks as he is afraid of falling. It is a conundrum since walking outdoors would help him both physically and mentally. I am working on restoring balance and lifting his mood. Both he and his family are already seeing positive changes. Even after he is back on track, I will recommend he stays on an Acupuncture maintenance regimen. He is someone who will benefit from an occasional Acupuncture tune-up to ensure he keeps up and avoids falling back into a slump.
My next patient is a 37 year old female who had struggled with primary infertility for many years. She has had numerous false alarms, including failed IUI and IVF attempted cycles. She and her husband were both struggling with the idea that their dreams of having a family may never come to fruition. After a few months of Acupuncture focused on regulating her cycle, I am happy to say that she is pregnant. She still does not quite believe it and is in a state of shock. I cannot wait for her to feel the baby move and register the connection. I tremendously enjoy helping people on their fertility journey. I often continue to see my patients and treat them through difficult and challenging pregnancies. I can help ensure an easier delivery with Acupuncture for cervical ripening much like a natural induction. I often utilized this type of focused treatment, along with Electric Stimulation on specific Acupuncture points. Pitocin or a chemical induction is forbidden for patients seeking to have a VBAC, or vaginal delivery after a c-section for fear of uterine rupture. However, a natural Acupuncture induction is welcome and encouraged by the obstetricians!
My next patient is a 55 year old male who has suffered from chronic migraine headaches. He has light sensitivity and is prodromal. He knows when he is about to get hit with a migraine and has a fleeting time span to lay down in a dark room and try to head it off. He came to me saying he just could not take it anymore. The headaches would linger for days, became unbearable, and stopped him from working and living his life. When it comes to treating headaches which respond amazingly well to Acupuncture, the physical location of the headache can be very telling. A frontal headache across the forehead is typically caused by dehydration. Temporal headaches are often exacerbated by stress. A vertex headache can be an indication that the person is irate and terribly angry. A headache that wraps around like a headband may be aggravated by damp weather or indicative of inflammation in the body. I focus on getting to know my patient as an individual, and what is contributing to their particular headaches thus resolving it entirely.
Acupuncture is an incredible tool at resolving both acute and chronic issues. There is no medication in the needles. Instead, we are using your body’s own energy to heal itself, thus the reach is vast. Each person is treated as an individual while we focus on getting to the root of the ailment and resolving it entirely. What are you waiting for? Start your own wellness journey today.
