noun

  1. the point in time or space at which something starts.

The literal definition of beginning is the point in time when something starts. The start of the school year often feels like a beginning. It does not matter if you have young children starting school, if you are returning to work, or from a needed vacation. Either way, it feels like you are embarking on something new, a new beginning of sorts. Just as a New Year will have us ruminating over ideas of putting our health and wellness first, similarly, transitioning back to school from the end of summer has the same effect. It is a wonderful time to stop procrastinating! No more excuses as summer has flown by. It is a valuable time in ‘Beginnings,’ enabling you to mark a road map of what your intentions going forward will be. Are you satisfied with how you feel physically on a daily basis? Are you feeling emotionally stable? Life has its trials, and tribulations. However, how you manage it is key. Are you able to calmly ride the storm or are you just barely getting by? Are you thrilled to kick the kids out the door to school because you just cannot take it anymore, and are desperate for a little me-time? Do you feel the stress effect you physically as in intense back pain, or even migraine headaches? Does it cause you to lose sleep, or have gastrointestinal upset? What impact do the changes in your routine have on you, and what have you done to take the steps to ensure smoother transitions? It is time for you to take charge of your own destiny regarding your health and overall well-being. Acupuncture is an incredible tool at resolving stress, migraines, back and joint pain, gastrointestinal issues and so much more.

Acupuncture should be a huge integral part of your self-care regimen. Utilizing tools that have positive benefits without negative side effects is imperative. Human nature is such that we look for quick fixes. Whether it is to minimize our stress levels, relieve pain, look our best, etc., we try to look for short cuts. I am guilty of this myself. I have learned both from my own experiences, and more so from my patients, that short cuts are not typically optimal. They do not provide true and lasting fixes. The wrong vices, especially addictions when used for reducing stress will not last and will lead to other even bigger more prolonged problems. Pain relief injections and medications may initially appear to be miraculous, but typically function as a band-aid for short term relief. The side effects can be detrimental. All too often the initial concern returns with a vengeance. Botox, Restylane and other injectable anti-aging treatments offer the promised land. However, in reality they fall flat and make you appear as though you have an unnatural duck face. I am not kidding. Take a walk down Central Avenue and you will see it for yourself! Acupuncture treats the whole person and can help alleviate and mitigate pain relief. It can help relieve stress and anxiety. Microneedling can help you look younger in a lasting natural way. As we embark on a new beginning, it is important to seek true optimal healing. It may not happen overnight, but it is worth putting in the effort.

Acupuncture builds on itself. This means that the more frequent your treatments are initially, the faster and the better you will feel. Spacing out your treatments too far loses the cumulative benefits. Natural healing with Acupuncture is a game changer as it allows us to get to the root of an illness. It may take a little patience at the onset of treatment, but it is well worth it. I often get feedback from my patients telling me they wish they had started Acupuncture sooner! People are typically amazed at the incredible healing mind: body connection and how Acupuncture helps with both the emotional and physical balance. It is reminiscent of the olden days when a family Doctor knew you personally, they knew your medical history, as well as your entire family. Because the Doctor understood you well, they were cognizant of what concerns they needed to help resolve when things went awry. That is optimal medicine and what Acupuncture and Holistic healing do best.

It is easy to understand both the anxiety and exuberance of the first day of school. Seeing everyone off or returning to work after a vacation may be a challenging transition whilst getting back into a routine. I am grateful to be able to help people on their wellness journey. The hardest step is often at the beginning. It is the first vital step you must take to start working towards your own personal well-being. Procrastinating “Beginnings,” and being weary of taking that first step is all too common. Embarking on your own healing path may be something you have pushed off for quite a bit of time. Utilize the start of the academic year to give you that needed push in the right direction. In a brief time, you will reap the benefits, and be thrilled that you did!
